Labor moves to protect gig economy workers

Federal Labor will consider widening the definition of employees to cover gig economy workers following concern employers are exploiting legal loopholes to classify employees as independent contractors. A Labor-led Senate committee report into the future of work tonight recommended the government make legislative changes that ”broaden the definition of employees to capture gig workers and ensure they have full access to protection under Australia’s industrial relations system”.
